Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you want to know before we kick off our partnership together, from how we price projects to what working with us actually looks like.
Custom Software Development Process
Yes, and this is usually one of the first things we figure out together. Most of our clients have ERPs, CRMs, or industry-specific platforms already in place. We build around what you have, not around what would be easiest for us.
It depends on the scope, but we don't leave you guessing. Before development starts, we establish a clear scope, timeline, and feature-based estimate, so you know exactly what you're getting and when. You'll get regular updates throughout, and we stay in close contact with your team from kickoff to launch.
We start by listening. Before we write a line of code, we take time to understand your business — how it runs, where it breaks down, and what success looks like for you. From there we scope the project, agree on a price, and build in stages with regular check-ins. You're not waiting months to see something. Key people on your team are involved throughout, which means the software we build together, feels familiar before it even launches.
Security and Confidentiality
Security is built into the architecture from the start, not added as an afterthought. We implement encryption, authentication, and security reviews as standard practice. Your data stays yours: we don't share it, and if you're using AI-powered features, your data is never used to train external models.
Absolutely. Everything you share with us stays between us. We won't disclose your information or intellectual property without your consent, and we're happy to sign an NDA if that gives you peace of mind.
Usually very little, and that's by design. Because the software is built around how your team already works, most people pick it up quickly. Key users are involved throughout the build process and have access to a working version along the way, so by the time you launch, it's not unfamiliar.
Cost and Ownership
We scope every project before development begins and provide a feature-based pricing estimate — so you know the full cost upfront, with no surprise invoices. Pricing depends on scope, complexity, and features. We walk through all of that together during the consultation so there are no guesses on either side.
For the right business, yes — often significantly. Off-the-shelf software can look cheaper upfront, but the hidden costs add up fast: customization fees, training, workarounds, and licensing that never stops. With Spectrumware, there are no ongoing licensing or subscription fees, and because the software is built for how you work, training costs are typically minimal. The bigger question isn't whether custom is more expensive — it's whether the off-the-shelf option actually solves your problem.
Yes, fully. You'll own the source code and all rights to the finished product — it becomes an asset of your company, which can add real value to your business over time. We don't reuse your code for other clients, and we won't repurpose any part of it without asking you first. If you ever want a copy of the source code delivered to you, we can arrange that.
Yes — if you'd like, we can host the solution we build for you on a cloud service like Microsoft Azure. If you'd rather host it yourself, on your own server or a different cloud provider, we'll help figure out the right setup and work with your IT team throughout the process to make sure the handoff is smooth.
Working With Us
Yes! Our team is Wichita-based, but we work with clients across the U.S. Most collaboration happens remotely, and we're experienced at staying closely connected with teams regardless of location.
Industry Specialization
We've built software across a wide range of industries, but our deepest experience is in insurance, manufacturing, trucking and logistics, and heavy equipment. These are areas where off-the-shelf tools consistently fall short and where we've spent 30+ years solving problems that generic software simply can't.
